Ukrainian cities join EU’s Mayors for Economic Growth initiative
On 20 June, the first twenty Ukrainian cities and municipalities joined “Mayors for Economic Growth”, the new flagship EU initiative. In doing so, the cities committed to taking active steps towards promoting and facilitating economic development and employment generation in their localities, in full compliance with the best European practices.

According to the EU, the signatories have become members of a professional network of local authorities (100+ members and growing) in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) region, pledging to achieve tangible results in economic growth and employment generation in the three years ahead. In a press release, the EU said it will assist with capacity building, expert advice, knowledge transfer and grant support to competitively selected participating municipalities.
The Mayors for Economic Growth initiative supports cities in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine to facilitate growth and job creation by improving the local business environment, stimulating entrepreneurship and attracting investment for sustainable economic development.
