The starting points of the summer school are joint economic and societal challenges the EU countries, the potential candidate countries and the Eastern Partnership countries are facing, such as the current migration wave, demographic change and the various economic challenges in the aftermath of the crisis. The challenges in the area of social welfare will be reflected and answers to overcome the challenges discussed with both, academic inputs and good practice contributions (e.g. social innovations) .

The summer school’s objective is to contribute to more European Cohesion by:

  1. building capacities of different stakeholders across sectors and countries;
  2. providing training on innovative approaches, good practices and up-to-date research results, and on project acquisition and project management ; and by
  3. joint development of relevant research projects with participants from different countries and with different institutional background (public, private and civil).

The summer school is co-funded by the Central European Initiative and particularly addresses stakeholders with expertise on Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo*, Macedonia**, Moldova***, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine.

The summer school will stimulate an interactive, participatory and reflective learning process amongst the participants. Various innovative learning methods are applied, such as design thinking, concept maps, brain walking and peer learning.

15 participants will be selected based upon a transparent application process with clearly defined selection criteria. These are expertise on social welfare in the Eastern European region, participation in the Building Bridges Launch Event (19 September 2016, Vienna), and balanced gender, age as well as country coverage.

Deadline for applications: 7 April 2017

Applicants will be informed on their approval/non-approval by the end of April 2017 at latest.
